Morning blues 🥲

Usually, our mornings make up the rest of our day. The stuff we do in the early dawn goes on to either help us or haunt us through out the day. That’s why it’s very important to make sure that our morning routines aren’t full of BS and actually good so that our days are significantly better.

#1: DO NOT HIT THAT SNOOZE BUTTON

We’ve all been there. Yesterday was tough and you slept at a pretty late hour. When the alarm clock starts blaring, you think if you got enough sleep to last you the rest of the day. “To hell with it”, you might think and press snooze to make the alarm go away to get, what, only a few minutes of sleep more. Actually, here’s a genius idea, don’t do that. If you feel like you need more rest, then fix your sleep schedule accordingly so that you are able to get at least 7–9 hours of sleep, which is the recommended amount of sleep an individual must get to stay healthy and rested. If you still struggle with waking up and hitting that snooze button, then try doing some activities in the morning that get you up ready and active.

#2: DO NOT GET ON YOUR PHONE

Hmm. So you finally sat up on your bed and fought the grogginess enough to pick up your phone and dismiss the alarm. Kudos to you, sir/ma’am, you’ve gotten over the toughest part of the morning routine. Now’s your time to shine and go be a champ- oh wait, what’s that? An Instagram notification? You tap on it and it takes you to the fabled land of Instagram. An hour or so later, you find yourself scrolling and wasting your precious morning time, which could’ve been used to complete some good work or stuff that was pending. If you recognize yourself in these sentence, then, don’t worry, you’;re not alone. Checking your phone as soon as you wake up not only distracts your mind but also sets the tone for distraction for the rest of the day. Using your phone in the morning can affect your brain’s ability to prioritize tasks.

#3: DRINK SOME WO’AH

Some advice. Before you go to sleep, make sure you got a water bottle handy and ready to drink from, because when you wake up, that water is gonna feel oh so refreshing and not only will it help you wake up, science has said that there is many benefits for this good habit. Drinking water first thing in the morning flushes out the stomach and therefore balances the lymphatic system(whatever that is). A stable lymphatic system will help build a strong immune system, which will prevent you from getting sick as often. Not only this, it will calibrate your circadian rhythm(your waking-sleeping cycle) much easier.

#4: EAT A GOOD WHOLESOME BREAKFAST

A sumptuous, nutritious and tasty breakfast is always a must for those who want to get through their day energized and ready for whatever life throws at them. Skipping this essential part of your day might come back to bite you, as science shows. Studies indicate that people who skip their breakfast regularly are at a higher risk of suffering from constant headaches and migraine, which is hardly savory, unlike your breakfast. Even skipping it in the name of weight loss is blasphemy. It has been shown that skipping breakfast might also make you gain weight, wow. When you skip breakfast, it is highly likely that you may overindulge in food through the day. This in turn, increases the risk of obesity, which makes you get in the high risk of getting cancer (domino effect). So, folks at home, eat that morning snack, even if it’s some old crusty oatmeal.

#5: GET MOVIN’

Exercising in the morning might feel like a chore to you, but trust me, there is no other way as to kick start your day. Going for a run or hitting the gym has shown to have many positive effects like boosting energy and reducing fatigue. When you work out, oxygen and nutrients travel to your heart and lungs. This improves your cardiovascular system, endurance, and overall stamina. Physical activity also improves focus and concentration, regardless of when you do it. But if you have trouble focusing during the day, a morning workout might be just the ticket. That early morning sense of accomplishment can also help you have a healthier day. Not to say the best effect of some good old morning exercise to shed some extra pounds that you got on during the pandemic.

It is very hard to go from feeling like a complete slobber-head to a champion about to win his/her day when it comes to the morning, so don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t work immediately for you. Try giving it some time, like a week or so, because when it actually works and your entire routine gets into place, it will be so worth it(true story).

Goodbye and please do consider following me :)
